Bamboo toppers are temperature regulating. They pull moisture away from your body. I've had mine through two Cairns summers now and it's genuinely cooler than sleeping on just the mattress alone.

Perfect for Melbourne actually. Bamboo regulates both ways – keeps you cool in summer, retains warmth in winter. It's not like sleeping on a cold surface in winter, it just doesn't trap heat like foam does in summer.

A mattress topper CAN help with back pain but it depends on WHY you have pain:

✅ Topper will help if:

• Your mattress is too firm (common with new mattresses)
• Your comfort layer has worn out but support is fine
• You're a side sleeper and need pressure relief on hips/shoulders
• You sleep hot and toss/turn all night (disrupted sleep = more pain)

❌ Topper won't help if:

• Your mattress is sagging/dipping in the middle
• You have a structural back issue that needs medical attention
• Your mattress is 10+ years old and completely shot

For the OP – 3 year old mattress with morning stiffness sounds like the comfort layer has compressed. A good 7-8cm topper should sort you out.

Just to add a data point – I've tried 3 toppers in the last 2 years (yeah I'm that person):

1. Kmart memory foam 5cm ($49) – Felt great for 2 weeks. Completely flat by month 2. Sleeps insanely hot. Waste of money.

2. IKEA TUSSÖY latex ($299) – Good quality but WAY too firm for me. Latex isn't for everyone. Also heavy as hell to move.
